The Upcountry History Museum opened in January 2007 at Heritage Green in Greenville, SC and has quickly become a popular Greenville attraction. It is the mission of the museum to promote, present and preserve the history of Upcountry South Carolina through education, research and service. The Upcountry of South Carolina is defined by 15 counties including Oconee, Pickens, Greenville, Spartanburg, Cherokee, York, Anderson, Laurens, Union, Chester, Abbeville, McCormick, Greenwood, Edgefield and Newberry. Trails through the forested park also include one that leads to the top of Table Rock Mountain itself. The park also hosts a visitors center near the main gate along S.C. 11, the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway.

The Pavilion Recreation Complex is one of the area’s premier indoor and outdoor sports and recreation destinations. Located on Greenville’s eastside the facility is open to the public year round. The 66,000 square foot indoor complex offers ice and inline skating rinks, table tennis, badminton, conference and meeting rooms, and volleyball. The sixteen acre campus features soccer fields, a children’s train, tennis courts, and playground. Programs include after school care, summer day camps, tennis, table tennis, ice and inline hockey leagues, skating instruction, soccer, lacrosse, and volleyball. The Pavilion’s professional staff is committed to providing the highest quality family entertainment, training, and special events for guests of all ages. Once a rural retreat, the mountainside park now is a treasured green space in the fast-growing Greenville area. Bicyclists, hikers, picnickers and groups using Camp Buckhorn keep the park busy year-round. Summer is peak time for fishing, and swimming, in the park lakes. Paris Mountain State Park was originally built by the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Great Depression in the 1930s. The renovated bathhouse, now called the Park Center, preserves that heritage in stone and timber on the outside and on the inside adds a 3-D map of the park, historical exhibits and a classroom for sessions on the diverse natural offerings of the leafy site.

The Greenville Zoo is a 14-acre facility featuring hundreds of wildlife from all over the world including giraffe, monkeys, giant tortoises and elephants. Join us on a wildlife adventure through the zoo’s beautifully landscaped acres filled with up close and personal views of its residents! Through engaging programs, educational events and animal exhibits, the Greenville Zoo provides a wonderfully wild experience for the entire family that will keep you coming back all year long!

Located in a creek valley in downtown Greenville, this area provides a nice relaxing escape. Walking trails wind thru the park past playgrounds, trees, gazebos, waterfalls, ponds, and a miniature golf course.

Lake Conestee Nature Park consists of approximately 400 acres of beautiful natural habitat on the Reedy River just 6 miles south of downtown Greenville, South Carolina. The park contains both hardwood and evergreen forest, extensive wetlands, 3 miles of the Reedy River, and a rich diversity of wildlife habitat. Deer, raccoon, beaver, fox, river otter, and various small mammals inhabit the park, along with numerous species of reptiles and amphibians. Over 170 bird species have been reported by the Greenville County Bird Club. The park has been designated as an Important Bird Area of Global Significance by the National Audubon Society.

For many residents of Greenville, this is “The City Park.” This large and diverse park was created in 1928 after the Cleveland family donated to the city 122 acres of land along the Reedy River near downtown. The park features tennis and volleyball courts, a softball field, playground areas, a fitness trail, and both small-group and large-group picnic shelters. In addition, Cleveland Park is the site of the Rock Quarry Garden, the Fernwood Nature Trail, the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and the Greenville Zoo.

The low-fare airline began service on March 13, with introductory fares ranging from $59 to $99, one way. All other routes in the system range from $109 to $149, one way.  “We’re going to liberate the Upstate from the tyranny of high fares and poor service,” said Dave Ridley, senior vice president of marketing and revenue management at the airline.

The company will be flying Boeing 737s, which hold 137 passengers. About 30 Southwest employees are already working in the Upstate and Southwest will employ around 40 in the Lowcountry.
